Wednesday 26 – Friday 28 August 2020

Kingston and Sutton Music Services are joining forces to hold their first Virtual Summer School from Wed 26-Fri 28 August 2020. It is open to students aged 8-18 (Key Stage 2-5).

Students can join in even if they are away from home at that time: all they’ll need is a laptop/tablet/phone, internet access and, for the improvisation and rock band participants, their instrument.

Participants can sign up for a variety of different modules which include daily sessions over the three days. These are:

  • Write your own pop song*
  • Create your own dance track*
  • Make your own split-screen video recording*
  • Jazz improvisation**
  • Virtual rock band**
  • Virtual choir
  • Percussion group (using household objects)

*These modules will include creative work and – to gain maximum benefit – students will need to spend some time working on their personal projects in between sessions. We therefore recommend that you don’t book for too many of these.

**For these modules students will be encouraged to do some personal practice in between sessions so please take this into consideration when booking alongside other modules.

There are detailed descriptions of each module below.

Timetable

Please check the timetable below before booking. With the exception of the choir and percussion modules, which are big group sessions only, each module will include a mix of large group workshops and smaller break out sessions. For the latter, students will be divided into three groups – A, B & C – and each group will have a different schedule. You will be given the opportunity when you book to give a preference for a particular group based on the timetables, but the groups may be determined by the students’ age, ability or instrument group at the discretion of their tutor.
